the enclosure to your despatch under reference, e.g. for subordinate staff, offices, local transport, equipment etc.

You will appreciate that it may probably be necessary to offer any suitable candidates recruited on temporary

teras appreciably higher salaries than they would be allowed

if appointed on probation in accordance with the terms of

pamphlet R.D.W.6. I should be grateful to know whether if

necessary you would agree to recruitment on this basis on

the understanding that, should such officers be transferred

later to the permanent and pensionable establishment, they would fall into line, as far as salaries are concerned, with

those appointed on normal terms.

4. I assume you would have no objection to the payment of a

gratuity to a contract o ficer at the end of his contract as

provided in pamphlet x.D.w.b if he is not transferred to the

permanent establishment. I should be glad if you would

confirm.
